National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates June 20 - August 27, 2010
Application Deadline: February 12, 2010

The Nanosystems Chemistry and Engineering Research (NanoCER) program is a Research Experience for Undergraduates
(REU) site sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI).
Undergraduates interested in chemistry and engineering will learn how to be scientists and engineers by participating in
teams that develop new materials, devices and applications of nanotechnology.
Interested students are invited to apply for this 10 week summer program which runs
from June 20 - August 27, 2010. Participants will conduct hands-on, team-based
research under the supervision of mentors, many of whom are NSF-IGERT Materials
Creating Training Program graduate student fellows. NanoCER participants have an
opportunity to use sophisticated instrumentation and fabrication facilities. They attend
weekly research seminars, research and career skills seminars, and workshops on
technical writing and applying to graduate school. At the end of the program
participants present a poster at a research symposium and write a paper about their
research. The program includes social events with participants from other campus
research and education programs.
The 10 week support package includes a stipend ($4,500), on-campus housing, round trip
travel allowance to UCLA, and a conference travel grant. Optional on-campus meal plans
and/or parking permits are not included, but can be purchased by the students.
